16 October 1950, Author C.S. Lewis publishes the first book in the Chronicles of Narnia. One of the earliest fantasy novels, it is considered a classic of children’s literature. The series, along with his friend J.R.R. Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, it would influence writers for generations. Another children’s fantasy, The Witch from Melchet Street, follows a young boy as he befriends a retired witch.
