On September 18, 1960, the 9th Annual International Stoke Mandeville Games, later to be retroactively designated as the 1960 Summer Paralympics opens parallel to the same year’s Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. The relatively young country of Israel would begin its long term participation and success in the Paralympics with these games.
