On September 12, 1921 the Auja Concessions (Auja, meaning “the wandering one”, the Arabic name for the Yarkon River) are formally signed. While they authorized Pinhas Rutenberg’s Jaffa Electric Company to generate electricity by means of hydroelectric turbines that would exploit the water power of the Yarkon, the plan was never implemented. It would be only one of many to affect the course of the river, as told in Winding- A River Story.
