    On November 11, 1917, the 1st Australian Light Horse Brigade occupies Ramle, in then Palestine. Within a month, Field Ambulances and Casualty Clearing Stations were posted in the area and began the Ramle War Cemetery. From WWI alone, the cemetery contains 3,300 graves from the various Commonwealth countries, 964 of them unidentified. One of those graves is that of Private G.W. Finkelstein.
