May 29, 1926, on her 15th birthday, the Hebrew poet Lea Goldberg wrote in her diary: “Writing in a language other than Hebrew is the same to me as not writing at all. And yet I want to be a writer… This is my only objective”. This was a bold statement from a young woman who didn’t grow up in Hebrew speaking home, yet began keeping a Hebrew diary from the age of 10.
