On June 6, 1964 the National Water Carrier of Israel is completed after 11 years of construction. Initially supplying 80% for agriculture, 20% drinking water, by the 1990s it was evenly split. One of the showcases for the young nation’s industrial drive was the Yarkon-Negev pipe of the carrier, diverting the Yarkon River’s headwaters to the Negev. This, along with disposal of industrial waste and municipal sewage turned its once lush green banks into a polluted wasteland. This is just one story in the long path of the Yarkon, as told in Winding- A River Story.
