Red Leaves

July 2, 2008. The Israeli Knesset officially adds the Sigd holiday to the list of official state holidays. Celebrated by the Ethiopian Jewish community for hundreds of years, it marks the renewal of the covenant between the Jewish people, God and His Torah. In Israel, it also serves as an annual gathering of the community, and an opportunity to strengthen their connection to the roots and culture of a community that underwent significant upheavals in making aliya. In Red Leaves, an Ethiopian immigrant is torn between the old and the new after losing his wife.
