Thanks Girls and Goodbye


    July 7, 1942. With Australia involved in WWII, shortages of labor in the farming sector led to the creation of the Australian Woman’s Land Army (AWLA), to organize female workers to replace males who had joined the armed forces. AWLA women were generally recruited from urban areas and were often unskilled in rural work. Initial resistance to the female labor generally changed to praise and respect.
