July 18, 2013, The 19th Maccabiah Games open in Israel. Considered the third largest international sporting event in the world, this year for the first time ever, the Maccabiah will also host concurrent Paralympic Games. With competition in four sports: swimming, wheelchair tennis, table tennis and basketball, each event will feature an Israeli team against a mix of participants from other countries. Swimming is a fitting inclusion, as it is here Israel has had its greatest success in the Paralympic games.
