Sentenced to Marriage (Mekudeshet)

July 15, 1658, John Manners, 1st Duke of Rutland and 9th Earl of Rutland marries Lady Anne Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester. As divorce was not generally available in England at the time, the failure of their marriage attracted considerable attention, eventually leading to a precedent setting Act of Parliament in 1970 granting them a divorce. Divorce in Israel is no less complicated as examined in Sentenced to Marriage (Mekudeshet).
