Boxing For Life

On January 6, 1681, the first recorded boxing match took place in Britain when Christopher Monck, 2nd Duke of Albemarle engineered a bout between his butler and his butcher with the latter winning the prize. A far cry from the modern sport, it was a highly chaotic and violent. In another place of violence, boxing became a lifeline for a 16 year old boy in the Auschwitz death camp as told in Boxing for Life.
