First General of the Nascent Israel Defence Force

February 22, 1901, David Daniel “Mickey” Marcus is born. A graduate of West Point, he would go on to be the first “Aluf” or general of the nascent Israel Defence Forces while helping to mold the Haganah para-military organization into a proper military. He was only one of many Americans who came to help defend and build the new State of Israel. Some of their stories are told in I Was There In Color.
